Smooth, permeable, low upkeep
Resin-bound driveways
A resin drive only looks as good as what's underneath it. We dig out, build the base, then trowel the stone and resin by hand so it finishes flat and even.

The detail
Resin driveways around Crewe
Resin-bound is the one most people ask about first, and for good reason. It's smooth underfoot, there are no loose stones getting walked into the house, and because water drains straight through it you usually don't need planning permission for a front garden.
Where resin goes wrong is the base. Lay it over cracked concrete or a sub-base that's already moving and it will crack with it. On most jobs we take the old surface out and put down a new tarmac or concrete base first. If your existing drive is sound enough to overlay, we'll tell you, and it'll save you money.
How we do it
What happens on the job
Survey
We measure up, check levels and drainage, and bring stone samples to look at against the house.
Dig out
Old surface removed and taken away. Edges set in with block or a metal trim.
Base
New porous tarmac or concrete base laid to falls so water runs where it should.
Lay
Resin and aggregate mixed in batches and hand-trowelled to a depth of 18–24mm.
Options
Choices to talk through
We'll bring samples to the survey so you can see them in daylight, against your own house.
- UV-stable resin so lighter colours don't yellow
- Natural gravel, marble and quartz blends
- Block or granite borders, or a hidden metal edge
- Matching paths, steps and patio areas

Questions
Resin: common questions
Especially popular in Crewe, Nantwich, Sandbach, Middlewich, Winsford, Congleton, Alsager, Holmes Chapel, Haslington, Willaston, Shavington, Wistaston, Coppenhall & Leighton, Wybunbury, Audlem, Goostrey.
Do I need planning permission for a resin drive?
Not normally. Resin-bound is permeable, so it's usually allowed under permitted development. A new dropped kerb is separate and needs the council's approval.
Will weeds come through?
Very rarely on a resin-bound drive laid on a proper base. The odd seed can land on top and root in dirt, but it brushes straight off.
Can you lay resin over my old tarmac?
Sometimes. If the tarmac is level and not breaking up, an overlay is a sensible way to save money. If it's cracked or sinking, it needs to come up.
